Dear Members of the Taekwondo Community,

On behalf of the Referee Committee of Canada and TKD Canada Executive, I am pleased to announce that Mr. Doug Robbins has been appointed as the Referee Vice Chair of the Eastern Region.

Mr. Robbins was recently promoted to N1 Class this past year and has been making tremendous advancements towards the growth and development of referees in the Atlantic Region. We look forward to continually building a stronger dynamic Referee Team with the addition of people like Doug.

Congratulations Doug, keep up the great work!

Costa Rica Open and WTF Kyorugi IR Seminar

Congratulations to four of our Canadian National referees (listed below) who attended the WTF IR Kyorugi Seminar in San Jose Costa Rica. Our Officials completed the required curriculum and testing in a class of approximately 30 new IRs from the Pan Am region. I am proud to say that our referees were on top of their game as they demonstrated excellent hand signals, knowledge of the rules and performed the agility tests with ease.

In addition to the above, several of our Canadian IRs successfully attended the WTF IR Kyorugi Refresher course and participated in the Costa Rica Open immediately following the refresher course. Congratulations to Susanne Mitchell who won the Best Female Referee Award for the event. Also in attendance for the IR refresher seminar was Susanne's husband, Master Wayne Mitchell who also participated as a member of the Competition Supervisor Board during the tournament.

Canadian Referees Recognized - Update

PATU Referee Poomsae Certification Course

 

Congratulations to the following Canadian Kyorugi Referees who successfully completed the 3 day PATU Referee Poomsae Certification Course held in Las Vegas, Nevada February 6 - 8, 2010. This was the 4th Certification Seminar offered by PATU since 2008. Several of our Canadian Officials were also selected to Officiate at the US Open Poomsae Championship on February 10. Canada was publicly congratulated by the PATU President Master Ji Ho Choi, for such a great turnout of attendees at the PATU Seminar because there was a combined total of 18 people from Canada in attendance at this seminar representing almost 30% of the overall attendance. A sincere thanks must also be extended to our TKD Canada Executive who strongly support these types of initiatives advancing Canada's presence on the world stage. Through this support we provide equal opportunity to educate and advance all of our Officials, Coaches and Athletes.

Canadian Referees Recognized

In 2009 the following Referees from Canada were recognized for their excellent skill and value within the ring by being awarded 'Best Referee':

* Spanish Open (WTF Sanctioned), Alicante, Spain April 2009 - Best Referee -
Master Barbara Marian
* World Cup, Baku, Azerbaijan, June, 2009 - Best Referee - Master Song Chul Kim and
Master Barbara Marian. This is the first time ever to be won by two referees from
the same country.
* PATU Jr Championship, San Salvador, El Salvador, October 2009 - Best
Referee - Master Eric Wah

PATU Referee Committee Appointments

The Board of Directors of Taekwondo Canada congratulates both Master William Jones and Master Barbara Marian on their recent appointment as members of the PATU Referee Committee.
