2012 Nationals: Day 2 Results

The WTF Taekwondo Association of Canada announces the results of Day 2 at the 2012 Senior/Poomsae/Colour Belt Nationals. The four day event runs through to Sunday, July 1st and is being hosted at the Sheraton Conference Centre in Tornoto, Ontario.

Men’s/Women’s Fly, Men’s/Women’s Welter and Men’s/Women’s Heavy comprised the Senior divisons doing battle today, while Poomsae divisions also took to the ring.

Melanie Phan claimed the gold medal in Women’s Fly and in Women’s Feather, Evelyn Gonda came out on top of the field, also earning gold. The Women’s Welter division was once again captured by Melissa Pagnotta and Rachelle Caruso made another strong showing to earn the Women’s Heavy champion status.

After some thrilling finals matches in the men’s divisons, gold medals were awarded to Vincent Foster in Men’s Fly and Olivier April-Lalonde in Men’s Welter. Joining them on the top of the podium was Siddhu Bhat in Men’s Feather and long time competitor, Olivier Pineau in Men’s Heavy.

Honourable mention goes to Jasmine Vokey and Vincent Foster who were awarded as MVPs today.

Poomsae champions for today were Hyun-Seok Seo, James Rennie, Shelley Vettese-Baert, Nicole Burt, Darren Tu, Mohen Kazemi, Tracy Lau, Gloria Cho, and Alex Bland. Teams and pairs along with full results will be posted next week. The poomse athletes all impressed with extremely high level competition displayed today.
