Instructor Stream

Coaches in the Instruction stream must have sport-specific skills and training, whether coaching at the beginner or advanced skill levels. Many are former participants in the sport.

The Instruction stream has three contexts: Beginners, Intermediate performers, and Advanced performers. Taekwondo Canada has workshops in the Instruction Beginner context called Assistant Instructor.

Quite often a sport will have either the Community Sport – Initiation context or the Instruction – Beginners context. It depends on the culture of the sport and how people are traditionally introduced to the sport. Participants in the Instruction – Beginners context usually experience the sport for the first time through a series of lessons. Typically there’s no formalized competition in this context, it’s strictly skill development and there is a short timeframe of interaction between the Instructor and the participant in this context.

The Intermediate and Advanced performers contexts really phase into specialized Instructors who are specifically there to assist athletes crossing over from the Competition stream to gain enhanced skills and in some cases, tactical development specific to their sport.
