LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT

What is LTAD?

  1. it is based on the physical, mental, emotional, and cognitive development of children and adolescents. Each stage reflects a different point in athlete development.

    • builds physical literacy in all children, from early childhood to late adolescence by promoting quality daily physical activity in the schools and a common approach to developing physical abilities through community recreation and elite sport programs.

What is Taekwondo Canada doing in regards to LTAD?

  • Taekwondo Canada has struck a Steering Committee to create and implement Taekwondo Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model.
  • Taekwondo Canada completed an initial survey of the nation to see how athlete development in Taekwondo is currently being carried out. Results are below.
  • Taekwondo Canada held a "Summit", gathering 40 leaders in Taekwondo to discuss where Athlete Development is in Canada and where it should be going.
  • Taekwondo Canada currently has a second survey to gather more information and direction from all taekwondo participants in Canada to see how they feel about the Steering Committees direction so far.
  • Taekwondo Canada will be producing a sport specific document for taekwondo that mirrors the Canadian Sport for Life Document that is generic to all Canadians.
